Which type of Christmas tree should you choose?
When choosing a Christmas tree, size and shape are not the only things that matter. It is also important to know how the tree has been prepared, how much it weighs, how it will keep during the holidays, and what you can do with it afterwards.
Below, we explain the differences between our cut Christmas trees, root-balled trees and fully rooted trees, so you can choose the option that best suits your needs.
1. Cut Christmas Tree
Our cut Christmas trees are cut in November especially for the Christmas season, so they arrive fresh and at their best during the holidays.
You could say this is the classic Christmas tree: the most traditional, practical and common option for decorating homes, shops and other spaces during the festive season.
They do not have roots or a root ball, so they cannot be replanted after Christmas. In return, they are lighter, easier to transport and handle, and also more affordable.
With the right care, they stay green, bright and beautiful throughout the Christmas season. You simply need to keep them watered and avoid placing them next to radiators, heaters or other direct sources of heat.
That is why this is the option we recommend to most private customers: you get a natural, fresh-looking Christmas tree with a beautiful appearance, without the extra weight and cost of a root-balled or fully rooted tree.
Best option if: you want a natural Christmas tree that is easy to carry and position, more affordable, and stays green and beautiful throughout the holidays.
2. Root-Balled Christmas Tree
Root-balled trees do have roots, but they have been recently lifted from the ground and have not spent around a year developing and consolidating their root system.
They come with their root ball and are placed inside a bucket or pot, which helps keep the tree stable and in good condition throughout the Christmas season.
They are a very attractive option for Christmas because they stay very lively, green and bright during the holidays.
After Christmas, they can also be planted. However, because they have only recently been lifted, it is important to do this as soon as possible, keep them in cool conditions and provide the right environment.
If they are planted immediately, they may survive successfully. If too much time passes before planting, or if they are kept in unsuitable conditions, their chances of survival decrease.
In terms of transport, they weigh slightly more than cut trees, as they include the root ball, soil and container.
Best option if: you want a very lively and attractive Christmas tree and you also value the possibility of planting it afterwards.
3. Fully Rooted Christmas Tree
Fully rooted trees have spent around one year developing and consolidating their root system.
This means that, if they are later planted in suitable conditions, the chances of them staying alive are very high. They are therefore the best option when the main goal is to keep the tree and plant it after Christmas.
However, if you are simply looking for a tree to decorate your home during the festive season, this is not always the most practical option. Their developed root system and the volume of soil mean that they are considerably heavier, and they are also more expensive than cut or root-balled trees.
For this reason, we do not sell fully rooted trees directly through our e-commerce store. If you are interested in this option, please contact us and we will be happy to explain the available possibilities.
Best option if: your main priority is to plant the tree after Christmas and keep it alive long term.

What is the main difference?
The main difference between the three types of Christmas tree is whether they have roots, how much they weigh, their price, and what you can do with them after Christmas.
- The cut Christmas tree is the classic Christmas tree and the option we recommend to most private customers. It is lighter, more affordable, easy to transport and stays green and beautiful throughout the festive season.
- The root-balled Christmas tree keeps its roots and root ball, weighs slightly more and gives you the possibility of planting it after Christmas, as long as this is done quickly and the tree is kept in suitable conditions.
- The fully rooted Christmas tree is mainly intended for customers who already know they want to plant the tree afterwards. It has spent around one year developing its roots, which gives it a much higher chance of staying alive, but it is also heavier and more expensive.
